UtilityAPI

Customer-authorized utility bills, interval usage files, and meter details through the UtilityAPI v2 REST interface.

About

UtilityAPI provides automated access to electricity, gas, and water data from utilities across the United States. Its REST API v2 manages customer authorization forms, tracks user consent, collects historical and ongoing billing PDFs, and pulls interval meter data in standard Green Button and JSON formats. Data requests can target specific meters, billing periods, and rate classes.

Through Fibric, an operator watches authorization events and meter refreshes, proposing new collection requests or tariff reconciliations for your approval.

This is a reference listing. It documents what Fibric would read from UtilityAPI and what it could propose, based on the vendor's published interfaces. Fibric builds it under a managed deployment when you request it; selecting it here installs nothing.

Inputs

  • Customer authorization records and referral status through GET /api/v2/authorizations
  • Utility meter attributes and historical collection status from GET /api/v2/meters
  • Utility bill summaries, line items, and PDF download links through GET /api/v2/bills
  • Interval meter readings at 15-minute, 30-minute, or hourly cadence via GET /api/v2/intervals
  • Billing summaries and accounting line items through GET /api/v2/accounting/billing-summaries
  • Real-time webhook events for authorization submissions, bill collection completions, and interval updates

Proposed actions

  • Target capability: propose creating a customer authorization form via POST /api/v2/forms
  • Target capability: propose requesting a historical data collection run on a meter
  • Target capability: propose activating ongoing monitoring on an authorized meter
  • Target capability: propose registering a webhook endpoint for automated collection notifications

Proposed actions are target capabilities. Every action runs propose-first and needs a validated deployment and the appropriate permissions.

What you can build

  • Audit monthly electric utility bills

When new utility bills arrive, the operator compares billing charges against interval load and flags billing discrepancies before payment.

    With Bill Reconcile

  • Detect meter drift across facilities

Match utility interval readings against submeter telemetry to spot unmetered circuits or failing instrumentation across building risers.

    With Submeter Drift

  • Evaluate optimal utility rate schedules

Analyze annual interval consumption against available utility tariffs to identify cost savings from commercial rate plan switches.

    With Rate Switch, Utility Chargeback

Requirements

  • An active UtilityAPI subscription with sufficient account balance or billing credits
  • Customer consent collected through UtilityAPI authorization forms or utility portals
  • Target meters located within supported electric, gas, or water utility service territories
Authentication
API token passed as an HTTP Authorization Bearer header obtained from the UtilityAPI dashboard.

Limits

  • Data collection speed depends on individual utility portal responsiveness and maintenance windows
  • Interval granularity varies by utility meter type from monthly totals down to 15-minute readings
  • Authorization validity periods expire according to utility tariff rules and customer selections
