About

KMA API Hub (기상청 API허브) is the Korea Meteorological Administration's portal for its weather and climate data. It groups APIs by category: surface, marine and upper-air observations, radar, satellite, earthquake and volcano, typhoon, numerical models, forecasts and special reports, integrated meteorology, aviation, world weather and industry bundles. Every call carries an authKey issued to a registered member, and each member has a daily call and volume allowance.

Through Fibric, an operator reads the short-term forecast or a surface observation for the stations and grid points you name and proposes a start-time change, a hold, or a notice for your approval.

This is a reference listing. It documents what Fibric would read from KMA API Hub and what it could propose, based on the publisher's published interfaces. Fibric builds it under a managed deployment when you request it; selecting it here installs nothing.

Inputs

  • Surface observations by hour or day through kma_sfctm2.php, kma_sfctm3.php and kma_sfcdd.php, with station and period filters
  • Short-term forecasts (단기예보) through fct_afs_dl.php, issued eight times a day at 02, 05, 08, 11, 14, 17, 20 and 23 KST
  • Ultra-short-term forecast and real-time grids (nph-dfs_vsrt_grd, nph-dfs_odam_grd) refreshed at 10-minute intervals
  • Village forecast items through VilageFcstInfoService_2.0: getUltraSrtNcst, getUltraSrtFcst and getVilageFcst by grid nx, ny
  • Forecast messages through VilageFcstMsgService: weather overview, land and sea forecasts by station and region id
  • Climate normals through sfc_norm1.php for four 30-year baselines, and monthly and yearly report services
  • Typhoon, radar, satellite, marine and earthquake categories under the same authKey

Requirements

  • A KMA API Hub membership; general members are approved online, institutional members by an administrator
  • An authKey from My Page, used only by the member it was issued to
  • Station numbers, forecast region codes, or grid nx, ny values for the places you watch
  • A grid conversion step (nph-dfs_xy_lonlat) if you start from longitude and latitude
Authentication
An authKey query parameter issued to a registered KMA API Hub member; contact registration with SMS confirmation is required.

Limits

  • General members get 20,000 calls and 5 GB a day; institutional members 30,000 calls and 50 GB, subject to change
  • Period queries on surface data are capped at 31 days per request
  • Documentation and field names are in Korean; typ01 endpoints return fixed-width or CSV text, typ02 return XML or JSON
  • Larger allowances need a formal request to the KMA National Climate Data Center

What does it take to get an authKey?
Join KMA API Hub, register a contact number confirmed by SMS, then read the key on My Page. General members are approved automatically online; institutional members need administrator approval and a formal application letter.
How many calls can one key make?
The usage guide sets 20,000 calls and 5 GB per day for general members and 30,000 calls and 50 GB for institutional members, and says both figures can change with system conditions.
Which license applies to the data?
KMA states the data served through API Hub falls under 공공누리 (KOGL), the Korea Open Government License, with conditions by KOGL type. The API service itself is free.
