Met Office Weather DataHub

Site-specific forecasts for locations worldwide from the Met Office Weather DataHub, hourly to daily, as GeoJSON.

About

The Met Office Weather DataHub is the Met Office's API platform. Its Site-Specific category serves the Global Spot product: point forecasts for over 5,000 locations worldwide, updated hourly, in hourly, three-hourly, and daily timesteps as GeoJSON. A Blended Probabilistic Forecast product adds probabilistic forecasts for UK and global sites in CovJSON.

Through Fibric, an operator reads the forecast for each of your sites and proposes a hold, a staffing change, or a customer notice when the outlook crosses a threshold you set. You approve it. It leaves a receipt: what changed, why, and how to undo it.

This is a reference listing. It documents what Fibric would read from Met Office Weather DataHub and what it could propose, based on the publisher's published interfaces. Fibric builds it under a managed deployment when you request it; selecting it here installs nothing.

Inputs

  • Global Spot hourly forecasts 48 hours ahead, 18 single-level parameters, from the sitespecific/v0/point/hourly endpoint
  • Global Spot three-hourly forecasts to 168 hours from point/three-hourly, with 21 single-level parameters
  • Global Spot daily forecasts for 7 days from point/daily, with 41 single-level parameters
  • One location per call, keyed by latitude and longitude, with the site name when includeLocationName is set
  • Blended Probabilistic Forecast for UK sites as CovJSON, refreshed every 15 minutes, hourly to 129 hours then three-hourly

Proposed actions

Read-only. This feed informs operators; it changes nothing.

Proposed actions are target capabilities. Every action runs propose-first and needs a validated deployment and the appropriate permissions.

What you can build

  • Hold a delivery ahead of a storm

Read the three-hourly outlook for each depot and delivery area. When wind or precipitation crosses your threshold, the operator proposes holding the affected orders and drafts the customer notice for your approval.

    With Weather Hold

  • Start the plant at the right hour

Feed the hourly temperature forecast for each site into the morning start decision. The operator proposes an earlier or later start and shows the forecast timestep it used.

    With Optimal Start

  • Warn site leads before severe weather

Watch the daily and hourly forecast for each site. When conditions cross your trigger, the operator proposes a notice to site leads, with the forecast attached, and waits for your approval.

    With Severe Weather Notice

Requirements

  • A DataHub account and a subscription to a Global Spot or Blended Probabilistic Forecast plan
  • The latitude and longitude of each site you want forecasts for
  • A plan with enough daily calls for your sites; the free Global Spot plan allows 360 calls per day
  • The attribution 'Powered by Met Office data' wherever the data is shown
Authentication
A Met Office Weather DataHub account with a subscription to a Site-Specific plan; the API key is sent in the apikey header.

Limits

  • Plans are metered as daily request limits that reset at 00:00 UTC; the API returns 429 once the limit is spent
  • The free Blended Probabilistic Forecast plan covers one site at 55 calls per day
  • Your API key is shown only when it is created and cannot be moved to another application
  • Global Spot is a point product; a call returns one location, so many sites mean many calls against the daily limit

Access and pricing

Questions and answers

Does the free plan cover Global Spot?
Yes. The free Global Spot plan allows 360 calls per day across the hourly, three-hourly, and daily endpoints, and limits reset at 00:00 UTC. Paid plans raise the daily call count. The Blended Probabilistic Forecast has its own free plan of 55 calls per day for one site.
What format do the forecasts come in?
Global Spot returns GeoJSON: a point feature for the requested latitude and longitude with a time series of forecast parameters. The Blended Probabilistic Forecast returns CovJSON. Atmospheric model orders on DataHub are GRIB2 and sit outside this listing.
Can the data be used commercially?
The DataHub Terms and Conditions grant a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use the products in your application, and the FAQ confirms commercial use. You must show the attribution 'Powered by Met Office data'.
