About

The New York Independent System Operator runs the state's bulk power system and wholesale markets. It posts market and operational data as files on mis.nyiso.com: one CSV per day for the recent window and one zip per month for the archive. NYISO publishes no query API for these files. Each dataset has an index page listing every file with a Last Updated stamp, and corrected prices are flagged in the listing. The Custom Reports form on nyiso.com builds reports from the Decision Support System for other cuts.

An operator fetches the day-ahead zonal LBMP file each morning and the real-time load file through the day, and proposes when your sites should ride through or shift.

Requirements

  • The index page for each dataset (for example P-2Alist.htm) to discover new daily files and their Last Updated times
  • A parser for the CSV naming pattern, such as YYYYMMDDdamlbmp_zone.csv and YYYYMMDDpal.csv
  • Your load zone names as NYISO spells them
  • A monthly job to pull the zip archives when you need history
Authentication
None. Files on mis.nyiso.com download over HTTPS without a login or key; the Market Access Login on nyiso.com is separate and not needed for these files.

Limits

  • No REST API and no filtering; you download whole files and select rows yourself
  • The Real-Time Actual Load index lists only the latest ten daily files; older days sit in the monthly zips
  • Corrected prices arrive as re-posted files; the listing marks them with colored links, so you must re-read
  • The website legal notice confers no license on the content and disclaims accuracy

Is there an API for NYISO market data?
No. NYISO publishes files on mis.nyiso.com: daily CSVs and monthly zip archives, each listed on an index page with a Last Updated time. The Custom Reports form on nyiso.com generates reports from the Decision Support System. Neither needs a key.
How far back do the archives go?
It varies by dataset. The Day-Ahead Market LBMP Zonal archive lists months back to November 1999, Real-Time Actual Load back to May 2001, and Real-Time Fuel Mix back to December 2015. Archives are zips of CSV files, one per month.
When are the daily files posted?
The Day-Ahead Market LBMP Zonal file for the next day appears in the morning, with listings showing times around 9:30 AM Eastern. Real-Time Actual Load and Real-Time Fuel Mix files are updated through the day; Fuel Mix listings show a first update at 00:15.
