Copernicus Atmosphere Data Store (CAMS)

European and global atmospheric composition forecasts and reanalyses from CAMS, fetched with the CDS API client.

About

The Atmosphere Data Store is the catalogue of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service, run by ECMWF. It serves gridded datasets rather than station readings. The European air quality forecasts combine eleven regional models at 0.1° resolution out to 96 hours. The global atmospheric composition forecasts cover more than 50 chemical species and seven aerosol types at 0.4° for five days. Data are retrieved with the cdsapi Python client against ads.atmosphere.copernicus.eu/api.

An operator on Fibric fetches the coming days of PM2.5, ozone, or dust for your grid cells and plans ventilation and outdoor work before the air arrives.

This is a reference listing. It documents what Fibric would read from Copernicus Atmosphere Data Store (CAMS) and what it could propose, based on the publisher's published interfaces. Fibric builds it under a managed deployment when you request it; selecting it here installs nothing.

Inputs

  • cams-europe-air-quality-forecasts: hourly O3, NO2, SO2, CO, PM2.5, PM10, and pollen for Europe, up to 96 hours ahead
  • cams-global-atmospheric-composition-forecasts: 00 and 12 UTC runs, five days ahead, aerosols and reactive gases
  • Ensemble median and individual model outputs for the European domain
  • Dataset catalogue and download forms with a Show API request code button on each dataset
  • GRIB by default, with NetCDF as an option on many datasets
  • Job submission and metadata retrieval through the ecmwf-datastores-client package for advanced use

Proposed actions

Read-only. This feed informs operators; it changes nothing.

Proposed actions are target capabilities. Every action runs propose-first and needs a validated deployment and the appropriate permissions.

What you can build

  • Plan economizer hours from tomorrow's air

Fetch the European PM2.5 and ozone forecast for each site's grid cell and propose the hours when outside air should stay out. You approve the schedule.

    With Economizer Check, Optimal Start

  • Warn sites ahead of a dust or smoke event

Watch the global aerosol forecast for desert dust or smoke reaching your regions and draft a notice with the expected window.

    With Severe Weather Notice

  • Pre-load filtration before a bad-air day

When the forecast shows PM10 rising, propose a higher filtration mode for the affected hours and record why.

    With Indoor Air

Requirements

  • An ECMWF account and personal access token
  • Manual acceptance of each dataset's Terms of Use on its ADS page before the first download
  • Python with cdsapi 0.7.7 or later
  • GRIB or NetCDF tooling to read the gridded output
Authentication
A free ECMWF account; the personal access token from the CDSAPI setup page goes in ~/.cdsapirc with url https://ads.atmosphere.copernicus.eu/api.

Limits

  • Gridded model output, not station observations; values are forecasts or reanalyses at cell resolution
  • The European forecast keeps a three-year rolling archive
  • Retrieval is a batch job, not a query endpoint; you request a file and wait for it
  • The REST API is described as for advanced users and not supported

Access and pricing

Questions and answers

Does CAMS provide station measurements?
No. ADS datasets are gridded model products. The European forecast is an ensemble of eleven air quality systems at 0.1° x 0.1°, about 10 km. For station readings, pair it with a national monitoring feed.
When are European forecasts released?
Daily. The dataset page states 06:45 UTC for forecast lead times 0 to 48 hours and 08:30 UTC for 49 to 96 hours.
What licence applies?
The dataset pages state a CC-BY licence. You must accept each dataset's Terms of Use from its download form before cdsapi will retrieve it.
