About

Open-Meteo is an open-source weather API project. Its Air Quality API serves Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) forecasts: the CAMS European Air Quality Forecast at 0.1° (about 11 km), hourly, updated every 24 hours with a 4-day forecast, and the CAMS Global Atmospheric Composition Forecast at 0.4° (about 45 km), 3-hourly, updated every 12 hours with a 5-day forecast.

One GET to /v1/air-quality with a latitude and longitude returns hourly PM10, PM2.5, gases, dust, aerosol optical depth, UV index, European and US AQI, and, in Europe during pollen season, six pollen types. Free access is for non-commercial use; commercial use needs an API subscription.

An operator reads the coming days for each of your sites and proposes a ventilation setting, a filter check, or an outdoor-work notice for your approval.

This is a reference listing. It documents what Fibric would read from Open-Meteo Air Quality API and what it could propose, based on the publisher's published interfaces. Fibric builds it under a managed deployment when you request it; selecting it here installs nothing.

Inputs

  • Hourly PM10, PM2.5, Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Sulphur Dioxide, Ozone, Ammonia, and Methane for a coordinate
  • Aerosol Optical Depth, Dust, UV Index, and UV Index Clear Sky as hourly variables
  • European AQI and US AQI, overall and per pollutant, using the EEA bands revised in 2024
  • Alder, Birch, Grass, Mugwort, Olive, and Ragweed pollen, available in Europe during pollen season with a 4-day forecast
  • Current conditions through the current parameter, and past data through past_days up to 92 days
  • Domain selection with domains=auto, cams_europe, or cams_global; forecast_days from 0 to 7, default 5

  • Trim outside air ahead of a dust or smoke day

    Indoor Air reads tomorrow's PM2.5 and dust for each building and proposes a reduced outside-air setting for the affected hours. Economizer Check proposes holding free cooling through the same window. Both wait for your approval and leave a receipt.

  • Notify outdoor teams on a high UV or ozone afternoon

    Severe Weather Notice reads the hourly UV Index and ozone forecast for each site and drafts a notice to outdoor crews when the afternoon looks poor. The crew lead approves the wording first.

    Morning Brief reads the European AQI or US AQI for each location at the start of the day and lists the sites that face a poor-air day.

Requirements

  • A commercial API subscription for use inside a business product, per Open-Meteo's terms; free access is non-commercial only
  • Latitude and longitude for each site; multiple coordinates can be sent comma-separated in one request
  • Attribution under CC BY 4.0 to Open-Meteo and the CAMS data provider
Authentication
No key for non-commercial use within the published limits; commercial use requires an API subscription, an apikey parameter, and the customer-api.open-meteo.com host.

Limits

  • Free non-commercial use is capped at 10,000 calls per day, 5,000 per hour, and 600 per minute
  • Pollen and ammonia are only available in Europe during pollen season, with a 4-day forecast
  • The European and global domains are not coupled and may show different forecasts for the same place
  • Global coverage is 0.4° (about 45 km) at 3-hourly resolution; values are model forecasts, not station measurements

Is the Air Quality API free?
For non-commercial use, yes, within 10,000 calls per day, 5,000 per hour, and 600 per minute, under CC BY 4.0. Websites or apps with subscriptions or advertising, and integration into commercial products, count as commercial use and need an API subscription with an API key.
Where does the forecast come from?
From the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service. The CAMS European Air Quality Forecast covers Europe at 0.1° hourly, updated every 24 hours with 4 days of forecast. The CAMS Global Atmospheric Composition Forecast covers the world at 0.4° 3-hourly, updated every 12 hours with 5 days.
How far ahead and back can I query?
forecast_days accepts 0 to 7, default 5. past_days accepts 0 to 92. start_date and end_date take ISO 8601 dates, and start_hour and end_hour narrow to hours. Time in the response always starts at 0:00 today.
