What you can build

• Queue a structural check after a French quake

  When BCSF-RéNaSS publishes an event above your magnitude floor within maxradius of a plant or property, the operator drafts an inspection request carrying the EventID and location name for your approval.

  With Inspection Scheduling

• Muster staff at a shaken site

  The operator matches the event to the sites inside its radius and proposes an evacuation roster check, listing who is on shift and the event time in UTC.

  With Evacuation Roster

• Explain a burst of vibration alarms

  When building or plant alarms cluster around an event time, the operator proposes one triage note that cites the event instead of a ticket per alarm.

Requirements

• Site coordinates and a maxradius in degrees for the event query; the service WADL lists minradius and maxradius only
• A client that slows down on HTTP 429; the data centre applies a fair-use policy to every web service
• For restricted networks, a login from the data centre or an EIDA token; open networks need neither
• Credit to the data producers under the Creative Commons Attribution licence, with network DOIs where they exist

Authentication

No key for open data. The dataselect /query accepts an optional JWT bearer token generated with eas2cli; /queryauth for restricted networks uses HTTP Digest with a login from the data centre.

Limits

• Polling any web service for real-time continuous waveforms is not welcome; the terms point continuous users to the streaming service
• A dataselect request for too much data returns HTTP 413 and the docs say to split it with narrower criteria
• Temporary network data stays restricted for about three years after an experiment closes and needs the Principal Investigator's authorisation
• The real-time stream service allows a maximum of 5 active connections per user

Questions and answers

Which host serves the event service?

ws.resif.fr lists fdsnws/event as hosted by BCSF-RéNaSS. Requests redirect to api.franceseisme.fr, which answers /query, /version, /catalogs, and /contributors. The catalogue and contributor lists both return BCSF-RENASS. Output is QuakeML by default or a text table with format=text.

Do you need an account?

Not for open data. The dataselect service accepts an optional JWT bearer token generated with the eas2cli tool. Restricted networks require HTTP Digest login on /queryauth with credentials from the data centre. The terms of service apply a fair-use policy and answer excess requests with HTTP 429.

What formats do the waveform and station services return?

dataselect returns miniSEED, or a text manifest with format=manifest. The station service returns StationXML or text at network, station, channel, or response level. The availability service returns text, GeoCSV, JSON, or request format.
