About

The Data Download Program (DDP) offers data from the Federal Reserve Board's statistical releases as downloadable packages. Each release page under federalreserve.gov/datadownload lists preformatted packages, such as the H.10 daily exchange rates and dollar indexes, the H.15 Treasury constant maturities and weekly averages, and the G.17 latest monthly, quarterly, and annual data, plus one SDMX/ZIP file holding the whole release. Files come as CSV, Excel, or SDMX-ML, one frequency per download. A direct download URL under Download.aspx serves automated systems.

The Board has said the Build Your Package option will be removed the week of November 9 ahead of the DDP's eventual retirement, and points users to FRED. On Fibric, an operator reads the H.10 rates and proposes a customs value or a price-list check for your approval, citing the release date.

What you can build

  • Value an import shipment at the H.10 rate

    Read the H.10 daily rates package each Monday. When a declaration needs a dollar value, the operator proposes the figure at the rate for the shipment date and attaches the release.

  • Recheck foreign price lists after a currency move

    Track the H.10 rate for each currency you price in. When the move since the list's effective date crosses your threshold, the operator proposes a review and cites both rates.

  • Weigh an early-pay discount against H.15 rates

    Read the H.15 weekly averages for the prime and federal funds rates. The operator proposes taking or declining a supplier discount and shows the rate it compared against.

Requirements

  • A parser for CSV with strings in double quotes, or for SDMX-ML; Excel output needs Excel 2003 or newer
  • PKZip-compatible extraction for the single SDMX/ZIP release files, as the Board notes for the G.17 archive
  • Separate downloads per frequency; a package cannot mix daily, monthly, and quarterly series
  • A plan to source custom series from FRED once the Build Your Package option is gone
Authentication
None. Preformatted packages, the SDMX/ZIP release files, and the Download.aspx direct-download URLs are public and take no key or account.

Limits

  • The Board plans to remove Build Your Package the week of November 9 in preparation for the eventual retirement of the DDP
  • One frequency per download; daily, monthly, and quarterly data cannot share a file
  • Excel files are bound by the sheet's column limit: 256 columns in Excel 2003 and 16,384 in Excel 2007
  • H.15 is not posted on holidays or when the Board is closed, and a Monday holiday moves the H.10 to the following business day

Do I need an API key?
No. The Data Download Program serves preformatted packages and direct download URLs without registration. The help page describes a direct download for automated systems, a URL that returns the package without a browser.
What is changing?
The Board has announced that during the week of November 9 the Build Your Package feature will be removed in preparation for the eventual retirement of the DDP. It directs users to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis's FRED or to the XML files on release pages.
Which formats can I download?
CSV, with tabular data separated by commas and strings in double quotes; Excel, for Excel 2003 or newer; and SDMX-ML, conforming to the Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange standard. Each release also offers its full data as one SDMX/ZIP file.
