About

Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union. Its dissemination APIs at ec.europa.eu/eurostat/api/dissemination serve the same datasets as the Data Browser: the Statistics API returns JSON-stat 2.0, the SDMX 2.1 and SDMX 3.0 APIs return SDMX-ML, SDMX-CSV, JSON-stat, or TSV, and the Catalogue API lists what exists through a table of contents, RSS, DCAT, and Metabase. Comext trade datasets carry a DS- prefix. Datasets are updated twice a day, at 11:00 and 23:00 CET, when newer data is available.

On Fibric, an operator reads the series for the countries and regions you operate in and proposes a benchmark, a budget assumption, or a demand note for your approval.

This is a reference listing. It documents what Fibric would read from Eurostat API and what it could propose, based on the publisher's published interfaces. Fibric builds it under a managed deployment when you request it; selecting it here installs nothing.

  • Statistics API: /statistics/1.0/data/{datasetCode} in JSON-stat 2.0, filtered by geo, geoLevel, time, sinceTimePeriod, untilTimePeriod, or lastTimePeriod
  • SDMX 2.1 data queries: /sdmx/2.1/data/{resourceID}/{key} with dot-separated keys and + for multiple values, for example A.CP_MEUR.B1GQ.BE+LU
  • SDMX 2.1 parameters startPeriod, endPeriod, firstNObservations, lastNObservations, detail, compressed, and format
  • SDMX 3.0 data and structure queries, and SDMX 2.1 structure queries for dataflows, data structures, and code lists
  • Catalogue API: table of contents, RSS, DCAT, and Metabase listings for dataset discovery
  • Asynchronous API: /1.0/async/status/{id} and /1.0/async/data/{id} for extractions between 500,000 and 5,000,000 cells

What you can build

  • Benchmark sites across member states

    Pull the same indicator for each country or NUTS2 region you operate in with geoLevel=country or geoLevel=nuts2. The operator sets your site figures beside them in the quarterly pack.

  • Set a labour budget assumption per country

    Read the employment and labour cost datasets you choose for each country in the plan with lastTimePeriod=4. The operator proposes an updated assumption per country, with the dataset code and period on the record.

  • Watch the demand picture in export markets

    Track national accounts, for example NAMA_10_GDP, and the DS- Comext trade datasets for the markets you ship to. The operator flags a turn and proposes a demand note for the planner.

Requirements

  • The dataset code and, for SDMX, the dimension order of its data structure, for example FREQ.UNIT.NA_ITEM.GEO for NAMA_10_GDP
  • A choice of response format: JSON-stat 2.0 from the Statistics API, or SDMX_2.1_STRUCTURED, SDMX-CSV, JSON, or TSV from SDMX 2.1
  • Polling logic for asynchronous extractions, which return a request id and a status of SUBMITTED, PROCESSING, AVAILABLE, EXPIRED, or ERROR
  • Filters on geo and time for large datasets; a full regional dataset can run to several megabytes and take minutes
Authentication
None. Eurostat describes the APIs as free-of-charge programmatic access and documents no key, account, or token.

Limits

  • Extractions estimated above 5,000,000 cells are refused with EXTRACTION_TOO_BIG; 500,000 to 5,000,000 cells are served asynchronously
  • Asynchronous results expire after a few days or when the dataset is updated, so you must fetch them promptly
  • The Statistics API returns JSON-stat 2.0 only and currently returns statistical data, not metadata
  • Some series are excluded from free commercial reuse: non-Eurostat sources, co-publications, some non-EU countries, and certain trade data

Questions and answers

Do I need a key or account?
No. Eurostat documents the APIs as free-of-charge programmatic access and lists no authentication step. Requests go to ec.europa.eu/eurostat/api/dissemination over HTTPS.
How large can one request be?
Eurostat estimates the extraction size. Under 500,000 cells the response is synchronous. From 500,000 to 5,000,000 cells it is asynchronous and you poll a status URL. Above 5,000,000 cells the request fails with EXTRACTION_TOO_BIG.
What licence applies to the data?
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Eurostat authorises commercial and non-commercial reuse of its statistical data and metadata if the source is acknowledged and changes are indicated. Third-party material, logos, and some listed datasets are excepted.
